Xavi: “The motivation and desire to triumph are still intact”

Meritxell Parera

Xavi Hernández has spoken to Barça TV about next season’s challenges, and also wished luck to his five colleagues playing in the Copa America and told us how pleased he is that Thiago and Fontás are joining the first team.

Xavi Hernández knows that Barça are once again looking at a possible six trophies in a season, like they did in 2008/09, but appreciate the difficulty of what lies ahead. “We have the team to continue winning titles, but they won’t make it easy for us, like last year. But we are clearly as enthusiastic and motivated as ever and so we’ll competing the way we always have”.

Good luck to friends at Copa America

He also spoke about the South American Championship which is currently going on in Argentina. “I think Leo is having a great Copa America. I wish him all the best, as well as Milito and Mascherano, and also Alves and Adriano. I’ve been following the Copa America and hope they all do well” he said.

Thiago and Fontàs: good news

Xavi also had words for Thiago Alcántara and Andreu Fontàs, the two reserve players that have been told they will be playing full-time for the first team this coming season. “The reserve team is very important here at Barça. Fontàs and Thiago have both shown that they are perfectly capable of playing, as can others in the B team and who are preparing to get their chance to be promoted. We have a very good generation and we should take advantage of them. And we have a coach who likes to use reserve team players, and that’s very good”.
