Piqué keen to calm expectations

Roger Bogunyà

Gerard Piqué warned against becoming carried away after FC Barcelona won the Spanish Super Cup on Saturday evening against Sevilla in Camp Nou.

The Blaugrana defender was delighted to have started the campaign with a trophy, but was keen to play down the expectations. “Now we have to put on the handbrake,” he stated. “It is good to see that the fans are excited though.”

Below is what some of the other players said after the Super Cup win:

Iniesta

“Madrid have the coach they have. They will always be rivals.”

“Villa was very pleased to make his debut and the people were excited to see him.”

“What has happened to me until now has been great, but I want to continue winning.”

Pedro

“I am pleased because the team played a great game.”

“The team is in form, but we still have some way to go. These games help.”

“All trophies are important and all the players have ambitions.”

“These games give us confidence.”

Messi

“We have to stay calm and continue to improve throughout the year.”

“We felt good during the whole game.”

“We never had any doubts.”

“My team-mates all said that I was not suited to the Jubalani ball in the World Cup, but I scored with it tonight.”

“The new signings are very good. We have a great side.”

“I am looking forward to the Gamper. Ronaldinho deserves a good reception from our fans for all that he did here.”

Alves

“It is important to continue to win trophies and not become tired of winning.”

Piqué

“We are ready for anything.”

“We were convinced that we could bounce back. If we produced our game it is difficult to play against us.”

“In the second half we tired, but in the first we were very good.”

“One wants to play 90 minutes, although in the last quarter-of-an-hour it can affect you.”

“Villa was delighted. He enjoyed the way the team played.”

Maxwell

“The comeback was important for everyone. We could not have asked for a better start.”

“The result in Sevilla made things difficult, but this game has been spectacular.”

“We maintained possession well and created chances.”

“I always look for the positive side. When a team wins like we did today everyone can play well.”
