Rubin Kazan-Barça: Did you know.......?

Roger Bogunyà

There are plenty of talking points surrounding tonight's game -here are just a few:

- This will be Barca's 200th game in the European Cup/Champions League. They played their first 50 years ago in Sodfia, Bulkgaria.

- In the 1999 games played so far, Barca have conceded...........199 goals!

- The last time Barca played in Russia was in October 2002, when they beat Lokomotiv Moscow 1-3 with goalsfrom Saviola(2) and Kluivert

- This is only the third home European game that Rubin Kazan have held (not counting qualifiers and the Intertoto Cup) and they have yet to win.

2009-10-20_PARTIDO_26.JPG- Rubin's first ever Champions League win came a fortnight ago at the Nou Camp.

- FC Barcelona have not lost in their last seven away games in the Champions League. They are unbeaten since they lost 1-0 to Wisla.

- Rubin Kazan can tonight call on Macbeth Sibaya, who has been under suspension since 2007

- Both teams top their domestic leagues, with a single point lead. The Russian League has just three games left in its season.

- It's been a while since Barca played a European game so early, they faced FKM Púchov (1-1) in the UEFA Cup with a 19.00 kick off and their last game in Russia against Lokomotiv kicked off at 18.00.

The referee
The Austrian referee Konrad Plautz will be in charge of the game tonight. The 45-year-old has previously reffed two Barca games in the competition: Barça-Levski (5-0) in the 2006/07 group stage, and Rangers-Barça (0-0) the following season. He has never before been in charge of a Rubin Kazan game.

Plautz also refereed a game in which many of tonight's players figured, the Spain vs Russia game in the last European Championships, which Luis Aragones' team won 4-1.
