Spanish League Round Up Week 5

www.fcbarcelona.cat

Real Madrid continue to win without convincing and beat Tenerife 3-0 to top La Liga on goal difference. Seville move into third after their 0-4 demolition of Bilbao, whilst bottom club Jerez got their first point with a goalless draw at Espanyol.

Two second half goals from Karim Benzama and a third from Kaka gave Madrid the points at the Bernabeu, though boss Pellegrini admitted: “we are still in a process of building the team. There are still a lot of things to improve”. After three wins out of three, Athletico Bilbao have now lost their last two, suffering a big home defeat to Seville on Saturday. First half goals from Renato, Negredo and Kanoute set up the win for Seville with Jesus Navas getting the fourth once Amorabieta had been shown a red card and reduced Bilbao to 10 men. Seville have conceded just one goal since their opening day defeat at Valencia and scored 12 times – a run they will be hoping to maintain when they entertain Madrid in next weekend's big game.

Mallorca still unbeaten at home

Mallorca kept their 100% home record to move into fourth spot with a 3-0 win over Valladolid thanks to goals from Nunes, Aduriz and Borja Valero. Deportivo are a point behind Mallorca with 9 points after beating Villarreal 1-0 at the Riazor thanks to a goal from Juca. The result puts even more pressure on Villarreal boss Ernesto Valverde, whose under performing Villarreal are now second from bottom with just two points from a possible 15. The only team below Villarreal are Jerez who finally got their first point, but not their first goal just yet, with a draw at Espanyol. The other team in the bottom three, Atletico Madrid, took a point from the Mestalla with a 2-2 draw thanks to a last gasp strike from Maxi. Aguero had put the visitors ahead early on, before two goals in two minutes from Pablo and Villa, now the league's leading scorer with six so far this season, had seemed to give Valencia the win.

Almeria again get late equaliser

Almeria again scored a late eqauliser, this time from the Nigerian Kalu Uche in their 4 goal thriller at home to Sporting, whilst Zaragoza hit three past the inconsistent Getafe, two from Abel Aguilar and the first from Pavon, whose assistant coach Esnaider made an unhappy return to the Romareda getting himself sent off from the dugout. In Pamplona, Osasuna rounded off a successful week with a 1-0 win over Sporting thanks to a Nekouman penalty.
