Xavi: “We have to regroup immediately”

Anna Segura

Barça captain Xavi has spoken about elimination from the Champions League and the hunt for the Liga title. He knows an immediate reaction is required after last night’s disappointment.

Few people know the club and its environment as well as Xavi Hernàndez, and he knows it won’t be easy to get over what happened on Wednesday at the Camp Nou. But despite the sad ending, he was stunned by the amazing support from the fans.

Lack of early goal

He knew one of the main reasons they are not going to Madrid is because “we didn’t score in the first hour”, but the first leg “when we weren’t at our best” was also a factor. He felt they were back to their normal selves for the return, but Inter were incredibly defensive, an approach he respects but does not share.

Looking ahead

We have to make up for all this and carry on because we really want to win the League.” Neither does Xaxi feel anybody should expect the exit from Europe to have a negative effect. He felt that winning the league would cap “a fantastic season” in which they have also won two Super Cups and the Clubs World Cup.

Muscular injury
Xavi didn’t train today because of leg trouble. After various tests, it was revealed that he has a small injury in his soleus muscle. It is too early to say whether this will affect Xavi’s availability for the game with Villarreal on Saturday, but the player himself said “I want to play because there’s a lot at stake”.
