Alves: “We are going for the Bernabéu dream”

Anna Segura

The Champions League final in Madrid is the dream fixture for Barça fans. Dani Alves appreciates that, and promises the players are doing everything to make that dream come true.

After beating Stuttgart, Dani Alves appeared on the ‘El Marcador’ show on Barça TV. The full back spoke about the excellent performance at the Camp Nou, the possibility of playing in the final at the Bernabéu, and his friend and colleague, Leo Messi.

The road to Madrid

Everybody involved with Barça is dreaming of another Champions League final appearance. Alves said “we are working to make that dream come true and will be doing all we can to ensure we enjoy another final”.

Regaining attitude

2010-03-17_FCB_-_STUTTGART_024.jpgSome days ago, Dani Alves said it would take all the effort in the world to win titles, and against Stuttgart, Barça gave the impression that they were doing what was required. “When we go out with such enthusiasm, we all enjoy it, both those of us living it from within and those that are watching the game”, said Alves. “We have something very nice to aim for and it is worth every effort”.

Second half against Valencia showed the way

The Stuttgart performance followed on directly from what we saw against Valencia, “with the kind of attitude that is the rule of Barcelona life”, said Alves. “The way we put on pressure, the way we kept the pace of the game up, the way we held onto the ball... now we are all back on top form, like we were today, we are back at the very top”.

Hanging onto humility

2010-03-17_PARTIDO_20.JPGBarça is only the second European champion to make it into the last eight in six years, and they are naturally considered the favourites to be going to the final in Madrid. But Alves is staying cool about it, and commented that “we just have to think of ourselves as one of the teams that have made it into the next round, and that is how we need to take the next game, if we want to stay alive … it is important not to lose our humility and effort, because in a competition like the Champions League, it is very hard to stay at the same level”.

Alves full of praise for Messi
Dani Alves and Leo Messi have a great understanding on the pitch, and on his Argentine team-mate the Brazilian said “there are no words left to describe him. He is a footballing god. Despite his age, he is one the footballing greats and we hope it stays that way, and he stays as humble as he is”.
