Leo Messi stressed what the team was able to achieve over and above his own excellent individual performance. “The first half was quite even, but in the second they gave us more space and in two counterattacks we’d won the game,” he said.

The scorer of two great goals this evening in Seville, Messi dedicated one of them to his sister who will be fifteen on Sunday. The Argentine said that “nothing was going right for me in the first half, but luckily things turned around and I was able to put in a good performance”.

Below are some more comments from Barça players:

Puyol

“It was a tough game against difficult opponents. We’re happy with the job we did.”

“It’s only three points and there’s still a long way to go. We’ve got more tough games coming up like this one, and we have to be up for all of them.”

“This Saturday’s result is massive for us, especially as a confidence booster. That’s the way we have to do things.”

“We’ve had some pretty good games this season, and if we continue just focussing on ourselves and taking the same approach to each one, we’ll achieve our objectives.”

Piqué

“We’re doing things well, playing at a high tempo and putting the opposition under pressure. If we can keep it up, we’ll do great things.”

“The dressing room was bubbling, we’re all delighted with the result.”

“With Messi on the park anything can happen. His second goal was a work of art.”

“We’ve now got two days off to rest and start getting ready for Valencia and Madrid at home. We hope the fans will come along and give us their support like they always do.”

“I think changing the routine is a good thing. Coming here this morning, then training and resting in the hotel was the right choice.”
