Woodwork woes

Jordi Clos

Barça hit the woodwork three times at Nuevo Colombino, which means they have now been denied by the post or the bar twelve times so far this season in just eleven games.

Barça would be entitled to rue their luck with the woodwork this season, as the Catalans have now hit the post or bar twelve times in eleven League fixtures. The last three instances came in Sunday’s game away at Recreativo with Henry (twice) and Bojan the unlucky players. However, the team has still racked up the pretty impressive figure of 36 goals scored at an average of 3.2 per game.

Henry and Alves unluckiest

malaga_-_fcb_x12x.jpgThierry Henry and Dani Alves are the unluckiest players, seeing their goal attempts come back off the woodwork three times each. Next comes Iniesta, who hit the post twice in the thrashing of Atlético de Madrid (6-1). Finally Eto'o, Messi, Xavi and Bojan have all hit the woodwork once.

Woodwork woes
Three times against Getafe at Camp Nou as well
Hitting the woodwork three times in one game doesn’t happen that often. Barça did it last Sunday at Huelva and also, curiously enough, against next weekend’s opponents Getafe in the League last season. On that occasion the Catalans paid a high price as they drew 0-0 and dropped two points at Camp Nou.
