Danger in the air

Barça players have scored five goals with the head so far in the pre-season. In just six matches, the players have demonstrated that the latest Barça squad could prove to be dangerous in the air.


Five of the 27 goals scored during the summer have been headers. Martin Cáceres headed in from a corner to make it 5-2 against Chivas while against the New York Red Bulls Xavi and Márquez both scored with the head. Finally, Puyol and Eto'o sealed the result with two more headed goals.

Guardiola strengthens aerial threat

hibernian-fcb1_x10x.jpgPep Guardiola is keen to score more headed goals from corners as well as encouraging fast breaks down the wings finishing with an aerial cross. So far, during the pre-season preparations three corners have resulted in headed goals.

Few headed goals last season

fcb-boca_x21x.jpgLast season, Barça did not pose a great threat in the air, scoring just eight headed goals, six in the league and two in the Cup. Henry got three, Eto'o and Márquez two and Milito one.

Heading for victory
Headed goals are always important but even more so if they win the match. And that’s exactly what happened in the Joan Gamper Trophy. Boca Juniors were leading 1-0 until Puyol and Eto'o hit back with two headed goals to win the trophy for Barça.
