Back in New York

David Saura (Special correspondent)

Two years after their last visit, Barça are back in New York. On Wednesday the team has a game against the New York Red Bulls.

nwyork_x1x.jpgThe Barça party arrived at Newark after a two-hour flight. They left Chicago after a resounding win against Chivas, in the rain and with a police escort to the airport. The team will only be in the Big Apple for two and a half days where it has a full programme of sporting and institutional activities ahead of it.

Laporta with the group

Joan Laporta rejoined the players for the Soldier Field fixture and is leading the Barça delegation accompanied by Vice-Chairman Rafael Yuste and directors Albert Perrín and Jacint Borràs. All three are to represent the club at a charity function organised by Malaria No More, the central humanitarian event in this second and last stage of the US tour.

The NY Red Bulls again

Guardiola’s men will once again come up against the New York Red Bulls from Major League Soccer (MLS), the same team Barça faced in 2006. On that occasion and also at Giants Stadium, the side then coached by Frank Rijkaard won 1-4.

Change of skyline
Chicago may be the highpoint of modern architecture in the United States, but the New York skyline is equally spectacular. Soon the new Freedom Tower which is being built where the World Trade Center once stood will be taller than the Sears Tower in Chicago and become the highest skyscraper in the country, if not the world.
