VIPs talk of Barça’s “superiority”

Roger Bogunyà

King Juan Carlos I of Spain, Spanish president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero (a self-confessed Barça fan) and many other well-known figures associated with Barça, such as Johan Cruyff and Ronald Koeman, stressed Barça’s “superiority” in the Olimpico.

Absolutely everyone seems to agree. Barça completely controlled the match from the moment Eto’o opened the scoring in the tenth minute. Spanish president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero told reporters: “Barça had a perfect match. We didn’t have to suffer”.

Ronald Koeman, a member of the legendary Dream Team, even went as far as to state: “This team is something more than the Dream Team.

Here are a few more of the comments from the many famous personalities who watched the match:

King Juan Carlos I

“We all saw Barça’s superiority”.
“The president (of Spain) told me he was delighted”

“A perfect match. We didn’t have to suffer”.
“They couldn’t get into the game in the opening ten minutes”.
“We could have scored more goals”.
“It’s the best team in the world”.
“It’ll be a long time before we have another Barça team like this one”.
“It’ll be very difficult to see another treble like this”.
“Platini told me that the Spanish league is very strong”.

Ronald Koeman, hero of the London final

“United pressed at the beginning but then Barça was superior”.
“It’s good to see Pep win because he’s very simple, a great person. It’s amazing to win it all”
This is something more than the Dream Team. We played some great matches then but this is even bigger”.

Johan Cruyff, former Barça player and manager

“It’s the first time ever. But the main thing is the way it was done. They’ve played good football all year. They’ve always tried to attack and score goals. They had problems in the opening quarter of an hour but when they got into their stride they dominated”.
Next year is next year. You start with zero points and all the machinery starts up again”.
It’ll be a difficult year with elections and everything but Guardiola knows how to make things work”.
Everybody that sees Barça play is delighted”.
