Barca head Euro goalscorers

David Puig

Barca boast the best attacking stats of the eight Champions League quarter finalists. Guardiola’s team have scored 125 goals in 46 games, way ahead of Manchester United’s 93 or the 91 of Bayern Munich.

If the level and quality of the teams left in the Champions League were to be judged by their attacking power, Barca would have to be considered to top the pile in European football. Their 125 goals in 46 games works out at an average of 2.71 goals a game and puts them way out front in the goal scoring stakes compared to the other seven teams left in Europe’s top competition.

Bayern and Manchester closest

bayern_ribery.jpgThe only two teams that come close to Barca are their quarter final rivals Bayern Munich and reigning European champions Manchester United. The German team average 2.39 goals a game, whilst Alex Ferguson’s men are averaging 1.82. Although the English team have scored two more goals than Bayern, they’ve done so in more than the German teams 38 games.

Behind them come Arsenal with 87 goals, Chelsea with 79,Liverpool with 78,Porto on 69 and Villarreal on 58 goals.

Leaders in Spain…

QM3D3613.jpgThe figures are even more impressive when looked at separately for the two major competitions Barca are involved in: La Liga and the Champions League. In the domestic competition Barca have notched up 84 goals in just 28 games, an incredible three goals a game- Their nearest rivals Liverpool have managed 54 in 30 games, 1.8 a game, with Bayern averaging just over 2 a game with 53 goals in 25 matches.

….and leaders in Europe

basel-fcb_x4x.jpgIn Europe, Barca have scored a total of 28 goals, 4 in the two games in the qualifying round and 24 in the six group stage matches and the first knock out round. Bayern Munich are again the team to come closest to Barca with 24 goals, whilst Arsenal (18) and Liverpool (17) follow them.
