Henry: goals to remember

David Saura

Thierry Henry’s two goals against Olympique Lyon take his personal tally in the CL to 50 while Barça breaks the 700-goal barrier in all European competitions.

Not only did he open the scoring and set Barça on track for the quarterfinals, Thierry Henry created a little bit of history last night against Lyon. He has now scored 50 times in the Champions League and overtakes Alfredo Di Stéfano, who has 49.

Fourth place

700 goals in European competitions

Apart from the personal achievement, Henry has also helped Barça reach the landmark figure of 700 goals in all European competitions. His two goals on Wednesday came on top of the goal he scored in the first leg in Lyon (1-1) and just a few weeks after Leo Messi scored Barça’s league goal number 5,000.

Right and left

The goal in Lyon was scored with his head while in the Camp Nou he scored one with the left and one with the right foot. For the first, he ran onto a long ball from Rafael Márquez to beat the offside trap and fire past Lloris with his right foot. Two minutes later he controlled a pass from Xavi to beat the keeper with his left foot.

Henry opened his European account for Barça last season, strangely enough against the same team, Lyon.
