Guardiola: “the win strengthens us”

Anna Segura

Josep Guardiola told reporters after the game: “playing well and winning will always mean that people have more faith in the team” and went on to stress that breaking the five game run without a win: “will strengthen us”.

Josep Guardiola never lost confidence in the players and over the last few weeks when the wins didn’t come he insisted on that if the team stuck together and worked hard they’d get over their dip in form. Well, they did and Saturday night saw the results, for which Guardiola thanked his players:”they’ve been working hard every day”.

Morale booster

Corrections made

Guardiola admitted: “against Mallorca we weren’t brilliant, but we started doing things which came to fruition tonight. After a few little corrections the team went back to the level we were playing at before”.

Puyol injury

The loss of captain Carles Puyol for three weeks is undoubtedly a blow to the team and Guardiola commented: “it was especially unfortunate as the game was about to finish. We’ll manage though, we’ll find a solution”.

Still a lot of games to go

Iniesta

The manager also had words of praise for Andres Iniesta: “he’s an example to all the lads in the academy He always trains well and plays well. Having a player like Andres is priceless for the club, he’s excellent”.

Defeat for Lyon
Barca’s Champions League opponents on Wednesday Olympic Lyon went down 2-0 to Lille in the French league on Saturday night. It was two in a row for Lille who earlier in the week knocked Lyon out of the French Cup. Paris Saint Germain closed the gap at the top behind Lyon to just a single point with a win away at Lorient.
