Puyol out for three weeks

David Saura

Carles Puyol suffered a second grade sprained left ankle at the end of tonight’s game that could see him out of action for up to three weeks.

All the positive points of tonight’s game together with Madrid’s draw at the Bernabeu were at least partially dashed by captain Carlos Puyol’s late injury that could see him out for up to three weeks.

More tests on Sunday

QM3D1059.jpgPuyol will undergo more tests this Sunday and if the injury is confirmed he could miss the following games: the Champions League tie against Lyon on 11th March and the League games against Almeria on 15th and Malaga on 22nd. The weekend of 28th and 29th is a break in the league calendar for international games.

Attacking role

Puyol was injured in the 89tyh minute, as he fell and twisted his ankle. He had been playing at right back and contributed greatly to Barca’s attacks. He was substituted by Victor Sanchez.
