Puyol, Xavi and Messi in FIFA ideal XI

Internet users have picked three Barça players for the ideal side of 2008, meaning the Catalan club leads the way in terms of the number of representatives.

The all-star XI of 2008 selected by visitors to the FIFA website (www.fifa.com) has a definite tint of the Barça colours. Carles Puyol, with 25 % of the voters, fits in at centre back; Xavi joins the midfield and Messi, with a spectacular 51 % of the votes, is one of the strikers. Also, Dani Alves also came close to being the top choice right back, but was narrowly pipped by Sergio Ramos.

Barça, with three players, can boast the largest representation in this fantasy team. The ideal side for 2008 is as follows:

Porter: Casillas (Madrid)

Defenders: Ramos (Madrid), Terry (Chelsea), Puyol (Barça) and Lahm (Bayern Munich).

Midfielders: Xavi (Barça), Gerrard (Liverpool), Kaka (Milan) and Ribery (Bayern Munich).

Forwards: Messi (Barça) i Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United).
