"We’re only lacking the results”

Sylvinho voiced the wishes of the Barcelona squad to have a successful season. “If the results go our way, then the team can face the future with confidence”, he added.

Barça have put the Christmas holidays behind them and have returned to focus on their football. Sylvinho Mendes was speaking at the midday press conference and gave an update on current events. With the defeat to Madrid still fresh, the Brazilian defender said: “We have ambition and quality, we’re only lacking the results. If the results go our way, then the team can face the future with confidence.”

Situation can be salvaged

"We weren’t expecting to be so far behind Madrid at this stage, but there’s a long way to go. We have to focus on our job and not think about anyone else. That’s what we did in the last two leagues we won”, said Sylvinho. According to him, “the defeat to Madrid in ‘el clásico’ hurt us and it’s not easy to forget it. The only thing we can do is continue working because we have a month with a lot of games”. The first of these games is against Alcoyano on the 2nd in the King’s Cup. “I’m sure we’ll be focused 100% on the game.”

Wish for 2008: titles

2007 is almost gone and Sylvinho is very clear on what he wants for next year: “We have to work hard and win titles. We didn’t fulfil our dreams last year”. The left back is convinced that “we have a very good dressing room, with committed footballers who are keen to work” and he concluded: “We want to win because life together is easier when you’re winning. We know we can improve and we will improve”.
