Laporta wants Krkic on tour

Roger Bogunyà

Joan Laporta has stated his desire for Bojan Krkic to travel with the FC Barcelona first team squad on the tour of the Far East that begins on Thursday.

The Blaugrana president is hopeful that the 16-year-old can continue learning under Frank Rijkaard rather than have to report for a preparation phase with the Spanish Under-17 squad ahead of the World Championships. "FC Barcelona will be doing everything we can so that Bojan continues his progress with the first team," he explained.

Conscious of the rules

Despite his hope, Laporta recognised that "there are rules that must be complied with" and that if Bjoan is selected by the Under-17 squad than he will have to go. The president added that "there are three players in the same situation" as Bojan and therefore understands "the difficulty that the coach faces" as to whether to name them in the squad or not.

Laporta excited

Krkic's form has also impressed Laporta as he said that "he is player that excites you" and we have "great expectations" of him. The president believes that the youngster's place in the squad is "a reality" and now he must continue to grow.

Deco is not sold

Following recent speculation in the media, Laporta was, once again, forced to reiterate that Deco is not for sale. "We are convinced that he can contribute a lot to the team this season," he stated.

Open door for Navarro
Reflecting on the situation of basketball star Juan Carlos Navarro, Laporta said: "As the president I hope that his dreams come true." Navarro is aiming to find a team in the NBA for next season, but if he cannot then "the doors here will always be open to him", Laporta added.
