Guddy out of Scottish trip

Eidur Gudjohnsen will not travel to Scotland with FC Barcelona after picking up a knock. Carles Puyol will also miss out through injury, while Lionel Messi, Gaby Milito and Rafa Márquez are still on holiday.

The 25-man squad for the pre-season trip, that starts on Monday, to Saint Andrews, has been named. Barça will take on Dundee United on Thursday (July 26) and then face Hearts on Saturday (July 28).

The squad

Frank Rijkaard has named the following players for the journey: Valdés, Jorquera, Oier, Belletti, Sylvinho, Zambrotta, Abidal, Marc Valiente, Oleguer, Thuram, Olmo, Xavi, Touré Yaya, Iniesta, Motta, Deco, Marc Crosas, Dimas, Giovani dos Santos, Bojan, Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Henry, Maxi López, Ezquerro.

Puyol still recovering

Puyol suffered an injury in the team’s final game of last season in South Africa and is still recovering. The Blaugrana captain damaged the ligaments in his left knee and was told that he would be sidelined for around three months.

Extended holiday

Milito, Messi and Márquez will not be in Scotland either as they were allowed extra time off after competing in the recent Copa América for their respective countries in Venezuela. All three will join the squad in time for the tour of the Far East.

Gudjohnsen stays behind
After undergoing all the medical tests upon returning to training, it was decided that Gudjohnsen should remain behind and work with a personal trainer in order to overcome an injury he sustained to his left knee last season.

Once the squad has returned from Scotland, the Icelandic international will undergo further tests to see if he is fit enough to travel on the tour of the Far East.
