Cáceres: "I will give everything to the team"

Roger Bogunyà

Martín Cáceres was presented as a new FC Barcelona player on Friday morning and admitted that he was very proud to have joined the club during his first meeting with the media at Camp Nou.

Following Seydou Keita's arrival on Thursday, the Uruguayan defender became the second summer signing to pose for the cameras after penning a four-year deal with a buy-out clause of €50m. As well as talking about his pride, Cáceres explained that he was ready to give everything to his new club in order to help bring success back to Barça.

Full of desire

It is not just incredible to be joining a club like Barcelona, but also to think that I will be asked to play alongside such superb players as Carles Puyol and Gaby Milito."

Central requirement

"We needed to bring in players in the centre of defence after seeing both Lilian Thuram and Edmílson leave the club this summer," he added.

Not easy to find players like him

His ability to play in more than one position and his speed will allow Cáceres to "play high up the pitch" too according to Guardiola. "It is not easy to find players with his profile," he concluded.

Following his progress
Txiki Begiristain and Pep Guardiola both explained how they had wanted to sign Martín Cáceres for some time. "I have followed him since he joined Villarreal," the technical secretary explained. "We liked what we saw and monitored him throughout last season when he was with Recreativo," he went on. Guardiola then added: "We have seen him so many times and the fact that we have now signed him shows that we are convinced that he will fit in."
