Edmílson: “There are losses which make you stronger”

David Puig

Edmilson avoids alarmism after the defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid. The Barça midfielder thinks that the options to win the league are still intact and has assured that the team is united in carrying on in the three competitions.

F.C. Barcelona’s midfielder José Edmilson has played down the loss in the Vicente Calderon stadium. The Brazilian has, during the press conference after the training session today, Sunday, assured that one has to make positive conclusions of the slip up against Atletico Madrid: “Even though we are five points behind the leader, Barça still has options to win the league. For the team it isn’t a step back and I think that there are losses that only make you stronger. The group is very united, and what we have to do is not make the same mistakes that caused us to lose in the Vicente Calderon”

The causes of the defeat

entreno020308_x4x.jpgAnalysing the causes for Saturday’s defeat, Edmilson has admitted the team did not make the most of their superiority during the first half hour of the game. ‘Kun’ Agüero was the main threat for the ‘mattress makers’: “We were in control almost the entire first half up to the first goal, but the two Athletico goals before half-time destroyed the team. The rival just grew and the individual actions of Agüero were decisive.

The team is on the right track

Although deceived by the defeat, Edmilson wants to make a positive statement about the present situation of the team: “ We have the chance to win all three competitions and shouldn’t let it get us down. Maybe this will serve to make us more alert and unite us even more to get on with the games”

Now, Celtic
The return leg of the last sixteen in the Champions League against Celtic could be the best remedy for taking the bad taste of defeat in the Vicente Calderon: “Now we are focused on this Tuesday’s game. We have to be very concentrated as it is a very important match. We’ve got the advantage but we can’t be too trusting”.
