Better than last year

Jesús Carrillo

FC Barcelona have been getting better results than last season in the League, the Champions League and also the Copa del Rey.

More points, more wins, better goal difference, less losses. It’s all improvements for Frank Rijkaard and his players this season. It doesn’t matter what competition you talk about, with respect to last season, it is better news all round.

5 more points in League

After 25 matches, FC Barcelona has 54 league points following 16 wins, 6 draws and just 3 defeats. At the same stage last season, Barça had 14 wins, 7 draws and 4 defeats. Last season they had scored 50 goals, one more than this season, but Valdés had let in 22 goals, 5 more than this term, so the goal difference is better.

Better in Champions League

WEB_12.jpgIn the 2007/08 Champions League, Barça won 4 and lost 2 in the group stages and qualified for the second round with a game to spare. But last season, Rijkaard’s side only came second in their group behind Chelsea and didn’t secure qualification until the final day.

Barcelona are also well on course for a place in the quarter finals after winning 3-2 at Celtic Park. A very different story to last season, where Barça were in a tight spot after losing 2-1 at home to Liverpool in the first leg.

Unbeaten in the cup
The Copa de Rey has also seen an improvement. Once again Barça have progressed to the semi finals, but they had done so last season having lost one game at home to Zaragoza, although they qualified with a far better performance at La Romareda. This year Barça have made the last four without losing a single match.
