Oleguer operation a success

www.fcbarcelona.cat

Oleguer Presas had an operation on his left hand at a hospital near Barcelona on Wednesday. The defender, who suffered the injury in last Saturday’s match against Sevilla, will be sidelined for about six weeks.

The operation on the third metacarpal of his left hand, which Oleguer picked up in the Sevilla match, was carried out by doctors Xavier Mir and Ricard Pruna.

Training to resume in a fortnight

Oleguer will now be completely out of action for the next two weeks before resuming light, non-contact, physical activity. In total, the fracture will take about six weeks to heal properly.

Operation goes to plan

Dr Mir spoke to Barça TV and the Club’s website after the operation and explained that it had been a complete success.

He also explained that, though the normal recovery time in such cases is six weeks, the use of titanium fittings to secure the fracture means that the player will be able to restart training much sooner.

Oleguer’s determination
Xavier Mir also highlighted that Oleguer had shown tremendous determination to play the second of the Sevilla match despite the injury: “Playing the whole of the second half of the match with this injury has great merit because it’s really painful”.
