Leaders once again
At the conclusion of week 26, Barça are back at the top of the league table. Saturday’s draw with Real Madrid combined with the defeat of Sevilla away to Gimnastic (1-0) has put Rikjaard’s team back on top by virtue of a superior goal difference.
Barça are league leaders once again. FC Barcelona have the same number of points as Sevilla but are ahead of the Andalusians on goal difference. The surprise defeat of Sevilla against relegation threatened Gimnastic Tarragona is further evidence that the Catalan side will fight until the season’s end to hold on to their place in the top division.
Portillo the goalscorer
The goal that won the game for Gimnastic also put Barça top came towards the end of the match. Javier Portillo was the scorer. The striker, who is currently on loan from Real Madrid, headed home a cross from Calvo in the 76th minute.
