Spanish League Round Up Week 2

Nick Bedson

Betis and Valencia joined Real Madrid with maximum points from their two games after 1-0 wins against Mallorca and Atletico Madrid, whilst Sporting’s defeat in Pamplona means they are the only team still without a point.

Spanish League Round Up Week 2

There weren’t too many goals this weekend in La Liga, with just 22 in the nine games played, Roberto Soldado got his fourth of the season and leads the league’s goalscorers alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, whilst Betis are still concede this campaign.

Soldado strike enough for Valencia

Valencia took the points at Mestalla on Saturday night, beating Atletico Madrid through a single Roberto Soldado goal, though Atletico manager Manzano was relaxed despite the situation he finds his team in –with just one point so far: “the result shouldn’t hide the things we are doing well. We are on the right track”. Betis also have maximum points after their Sunday lunchtime win over Mallorca -last week Ruben Castro scored an 88th minute winner against Granada and he repeated the feat again on Sunday with an 87th minute strike. Real Madrid are the other team with maximum points after seeing off Getafe 4-2 at the Bernabeu.

Villarreal have to settle for a point

Villarreal were unlucky not to take the three points at El Madrigal when Alexis scored a late equaliser for Seville after the hosts had played with 10 men for most of the game following a red card for keeper Diego Lopez. Osasuna, who are at the Camp Nou next weekend, are level with Seville, Real Sociedad and Barça on 4 points after their 2-1 win against Sporting, whilst fellow Basques Bilbao went down 2-1 at Espanyol with two goals from Sergio Garcia wiping out Fernando Llorente’s first strike of the season.
