Adriano: "I’m really looking forward to Saturday"

Roger Bogunyà

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Adriano Correia said he was excited by the possibility of making his Barça competitive debut on Saturday: “I’m really looking forward to playing this match”.

It will be a doubly special occasion for the Brazilian given that he has spent the past five years defending the Sevilla colours: “I’m delighted with my time with Sevilla and now I’m excited about going back”.

Which position?

2010-07-29_PARTIDO_19.JPGAdriano is a highly versatile player and even he can’t be sure where Guardiola might choose to play him: “So far this pre-season I’m played two matches at right back, in the position usually occupied by Alves, and one at left back. But Guardiola hasn’t specifically told me where I must play. I’m at his disposal”.

Without the World Champions

It seems unlikely that any of the Spanish internationals will make the trip to Seville so the team will be without many of the regular starters. But for Adriano this doesn’t have to be a negative factor: “I think we’re ready. We knew that the players who took part in the World Cup wouldn’t come back until now and whatever the manager chooses will be OK. Whoever plays we’ll go at it 100%

Adriano is disappointed about Pinto’s injury though he insisted that Oier and Miño are “ready” to play the match in the Sánchez Pizjuán.

At the same time he rejected any suggestion that the squad needed more strength in depth: “I don’t think the squad lacks depth. People always say that but the team wins titles. If we need a player we have the reserves where there are enough players to fill in if there is anyone missing”.

"Sevilla won’t hold anything back"

Obviously, Adriano knows Sevilla manager, Antonio Álvarez, very well and believes he won’t be holding any players in reserve despite the Champions League qualifier a few days after the Super Cup match: “I don’t think Sevilla will hold anybody in reserve. They’re focussed on the match against Barça because it’s a final, a chance of a title. I’m sure Álvarez won’t reserve anyone”.

Barça the priority
Adriano is clear that his priority is to make an impact with Barça and then break into the Brazil team: “My first thought is to focus on Barça, find a place in the team – with respect to my team-mates. The competition will be healthy and good for Barça. Then if I get another chance with Brazil I’ll try and make good use of it”.
