Guardiola, best first 100 ever

Edgar Fornós

Pep Guardiola has been manager for 100 league games and his 79 wins, 14 draws and just 7 defeats is the best record ever for a Liga manager after the first century of games.

Most tormented rivals
Real Madrid, Malaga and Sevilla are the three teams that have suffered most at the hands of Barça under Guardiola. All of them have lost on all five occasions that they have faced the Catalans.
This Barça would not be the same without its manager, Josep Guardiola. The Catalan has brought the best out in his players and the records are falling left, right and centre. The latest is the best ever record for a manager in his first 100 games, an even better record than the 72 wins for Real Madrid under Miguel Muñoz or the 64 for his own mentor, Johan Cruyff.

Pep, number one

2010-08-28_ENTRENO_26.JPGGuardiola may be the youngest of the managers at the top of the list, but age matters nothing where this man is concerned. 79 wins, 14 draws and 7 defeats better the likes of Muñoz, who managed 72 wins, 13 draws and 15 defeats, and Johan Cruyff, who posted 64 wins, 20 draws and 16 defeats in their first 100 league games in charge.

68 weeks on top

Since Guardiola took the reins of the first team, he has spent most of his time looking down from the top. In an amazing 68 of his weeks in charge, he has been manager of a league-leading FC Barcelona.

40 players, 58% from the youth system

2010-12-07_PARTIDO_24.JPGThese games equate to just over a season and a half of football, and have involved 40 different players, a large proportion of which have been products of the club’s own youth system. His teams have featured an average 58% of locally bred talent. Valdés with 96 games, Xavi with 90 and Messi with 87 have made the most league appearances under Guardiola.

Full house against Madrid

The most memorable league games over this period include some amazing performances against the old rival, Real Madrid. In these five encounters, Barça scored 11 goals and conceded just 2 in their triumphant march to five wins out of five.
