More than 100 goals this season

www.fcbarcelona.cat

There seems to be no limit to Barça’s goalscoring ability. Today they stuck five past Almeria and that means more than 100 goals in the 35 official games played so far this season.

Argentinian Leo Messi was the man who converted the 100th of Barça’s 2010/11 season. He scored following an assist from Iniesta in the 16th minute of the game, and made it 3-0 on the night.

Barça have never before made it to 100 goals in such a short time. Their previous record came in 2008/09, when goal number 100 came in game 37.

On course for record of 158

The most goals FC Barcelona have ever scored in a single season was the 158 in Guardiola’s first year on the bench. That tally was largely thanks to the trident of Eto’o, Messi and Henry, who dwarfed the previous record of 143 goals in the 1959/60 and 1996/97 seasons.

3 goals a game

The 5 goals put past keeper Esteban today have taken the season’s overall haul to 102, which equates to a spectacular average of 2.91 goals a game, considerably more than the 2.54 for the previous record season (2008/09). Statistics that show that the current Barcelona team is simply on a different planet.
