Ex-player Alcides Vicente Silveira dies

The ex-Barça midfielder Alcides Vicente Silveira passed away this Sunday in his native Uruguay at the age of 72. He played for Barça during the 1963/64 season.

Silveira was signed from Independiente d’Avellaneda in 1963, His signing created a lot of excitement and expectation, but he eventually played just 14 games for the club before he moved to Boca Juniors before the end of the 1963/64 season, where he formed part of the epoch making team.

He was a skilful playmaker and enjoyed a long career before retiring in Uruguay.

A minute’s silence was observed before tonight’s game against Malaga in honour of Silveira and another ex-player Enrique Vicedo, who died on January 11th.
