Toure and Keita nominated for African Player of the Year

Yaya Touré and Seydou Keita have been named by the Confederation of African Football as among the five nominations for the African Player of the Year for 2009.


FC Barcelona's brilliant season has seen its stars win several individual awards and now the midfield duo is up for another gong. The winner of the trophy will be announced at a presentation ceremony on February 25.

Other Nominations

Along with Touré and Keita, Chelsea have contributed two of the nominees with Didier Drogba and Michael Essien being named while Samuel Eto'o's success in the Barça team last term has also seen him named.

Blaugrana winners

foto_uefa_6.jpgEto'o is the only player to have won the award while playing for Barça and has also won it on the most occasions having been seen as the best African player in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Former Blaugrana star Emmanuel Amunike also lifted the prize in 1994 when playing for Sporting Lisbon.
