Milito cleared for action after 580 days

www.fcbarcelona.cat

Gabriel Milito was passed fit for action by Club doctors on Monday. He’d been sidelined by injury since 29th April 2008. Barça gain a defender.

The Champions League semi-final match against Manchester United in the 2007-08 season was a bad day all round for FC Barcelona. Firstly, because the team was knocked out of the competition and secondly because Gaby Milito suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury to his right knee. That injury has kept him out of action for a year and a half.

A whole season without playing

Here and in his native Argentina he has had to go through countless physical tests, operations and setbacks in a recovery process that has lasted much longer than expected. As a consequence he missed the whole of the treble-winning season.

Another centre back

His return means that FC Barcelona can now count on another first class central defender. Apart from Milito, Guardiola can call on Piqué, Puyol, Márquez and Chygrynskiy, although the Ukrainian isn’t eligible for the Champions League.

First match against Bolívar
Although it was a training match, Gaby Milito got his first taste of football after his injury layoff against Bolívar on 18th November. He played 45 minutes at a good rhythm and helped Barça win 4-1.
