Iniesta: “The fans intimidate the opponents”

Edgar Fornós

The Barça midfielder is convinced the fans will be vital in the match against Inter: “The fans intimidate the opponents. The Camp Nou fans have always been behind us and that’s vital to win the three points”.

On Tuesday evening, Barça have their Champions League future at stake against Inter Milan and Iniesta believes the fans will have a big influence on the match. “When we’ve needed them, the fans have always been behind us. I understand that the team may have generated the odd doubt about whether we will qualify but I’m convinced they’ll give us their full support and they will be key to getting a good result. Playing in a packed Camp Nou is uncomfortable for the opponents”.

Up for the challenge

We know that if we win we will have taken an almost definite step in qualifying for the R16 and a win against Inter would give us a boost ahead of our upcoming commitments”.

“Every day I try to be better”

Iniesta has been training hard to regain full fitness after the injuries he suffered at the end of last season: “Every day I try to do better. I’m training flat out to try and get match fitness and above all consistency. That’s so important for all footballers. I hope things work out well”.

With or without Messi

Whether or not Messi plays, Iniesta is certain of one thing: “A win is the only valid result. If Messi can play then great but if he isn’t fit there are other players who will also give 100% to win the match. There’s no other option”.

Iniesta ambitious
Next up after Inter Milan come Real Madrid at the weekend. Iniesta is looking to win both matches: “I can’t choose which of the two matches I would like to win. I’m ambitious and I want to beat both teams. It’s true that against Inter we can’t fail because we would be eliminated while in the league there’s a bigger margin of error. But we’ll do everything possible to win both”.
