Eusebio delighted with Barça

Marc Guillén / Anna Segura

Former Barça player and coach, Eusebio Sacristán, is back in Barcelona at the moment and is hugely impressed by his old team.

2009-10-06_ENTRENAMIENTO_CELTA_DE_VIGO_003.JPGEusebio Sacristán, one of the key members of the Dream Team, who later became Frank Rijkaard’s assistant, is currently preparing a Cup tie against Girona at the Barça training grounds with the team he has managed since last season, Celta.

Barça TV took the opportunity to find out his views on Barça 2009/10.

Impressed by Barça

Eusebio is impressed by Josep Guardiola’s team: “Spectacular. It’s wonderful to see this team play. To see how they dominate matches, how they manipulate them, how they play and how they are capable of winning them”.

A team in development

“The team is on the same wavelength as last season and is continuously developing and looking to work better. It’s getting harder and harder for the other teams to stop them”.

“A real block”

2009-10-06_ENTRENAMIENTO_CELTA_DE_VIGO_004.JPGEusebio does not single out any particular player for praise but instead emphasises the value of the team: “They’re really focussed when they defend. They defend like a real block. They apply intense pressure that stops the other teams from reaching the Barça goal. Their attacking play is also very good because they have a lot of ways of undoing opposing defences”.

“Guardiola has a key role”
Eusebio believes that Guardiola “has a key role” in Barça. “He’s managed to make a group that is highly motivated and really fired up to win titles and achieve big things at this club”.

Eusebio knows Guardiola well from their playing days together and believes the players won’t let their guard down after last season’s successes: “We can see that Pep doesn’t want to stop here. He wants to keep on demanding the maximum and he knows that to keep on demanding 100% you have to work continuously and keep on developing.
