Barça and Atlético means goals

Berta Brau

Games between FC Barcelona and Club Atlético de Madrid are synonymous with goals and entertainment and both games in the league last season are perfect examples of how the two sides play as they offered the best and worst from both.

Despite not being the games that fans may remember above all else, the matches were scintillating with a little bit of everything for the followers of each club and neutrals watching at home.

Big home win

It fcb-at.madrid_x16x.jpg was against Atlético that Barça under Pep Guardiola recorded their first big win in Camp Nou as the team netted six times to produce a glorious victory. The hapless Gregory Coupet in the visitors goal last term did not know quite what had happened as he spent most of the game picking the ball out of the net.

Early goals

That match was a great reason why supporters should not arrive late to games as Barça were three goals ahead by the tenth minute and Atlético then reduced the arrears with 17 minutes on the lock. Four minutes later Barça’s fourth went in and then a fifth soon followed. It was not until the 73rd minute the Thierry Henry scored the sixth and last goal of the night.

Good start

Complete turnaround

Atlético’s comeback continued when Sergio Agüero drew them level, but again Henry scored and put the Blaugrana back in front. That was not the end of things however as Forlán, again, and Agüero both netted to give Los Colchoneros a 4-3 victory.

Last bad result

Copa del Rey tie
The league was not the only competition that pitted Barça against Atlético as the teams met in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with the Blaugrana winning 1-3 in the Calderón and then 2-1 in Camp Nou.
