Point not enough for Messi

Roger Bogunyà

Leo Messi is not leaving Milan a happy man. The Argentinian said “I’m leaving with the feeling that we could have won”.

Nevertheless, he agrees that the result at the Giuseppe Meazza ( 0-0 ) is nothing to be shamed of. “A draw is not a bad result”, he said. The FC Barcelona striker was pleased that they managed to stay faithful to their style, saying “I think we played the way we always do, as we do from game to game. And they just waited at the back”.

Most of the players agreed that Barça had been the best team, and coming so close to beating the Italian champions was something to be proud of. But there is a long was to go yet before talking of retaining the European title.

The following are some of the comments made by FC Barcelona players at the end of the match.

Ibrahimovic

“I’m happy because Inter is a very strong side”.
“It would have been fairer if Barça had got the three points, but a point is good”.
“It was exciting to play in Milan against my ex team mates”.

Iniesta

PARTIDO_WEB_21.JPG“Nothing was agreed with Pep. I suppose I have to take things bit by bit. I am really keen to play”.
“There was a lack of determination when it came to finishing off moves”.
“We are coming away from a difficult ground. If you don’t win, it’s important not to lose”.
“We dominated, they hardly had any chances”.
“They are different styles and ways of interpreting football. We always stay faithful to our way of playing”.
“Perhaps we have dropped two points, but there is still a long way to go”.

Valdés

“It was a good game. We gave a good image of ourselves”.
“There were some controversial moments, like the penalty that I could see from my own area”.
“Samuel Eto’o will always be a friend. He is a very dangerous player, but we know all about him and perhaps that was an advantage”.
“These away draws make us better at home”.

Alves

PARTIDO_WEB_04.JPG“A draw is never a good result for us”.
“We created chances but couldn’t get any goals”.
“We played well in every position, but it is always hard here”.
“It wasn’t a bad start”.
“We were causing danger down the wings and then they closed that area down and so we switched to rapid moves through the middle”.
“There’s no time to think, now it’s back to the league”.
“I think it was a penalty”.
“Complaints (about the possibly penalty by Stankovic) are for losers and we’re not losers”.

Piqué

“We are leaving with a good feeling, we were just missing goals”.
“We can’t complain about referees. In the game against Chelsea last year they could easily have given a penalty against us and we could have missed out on the final. So I have no complaints”.
“Inter’s defence is strong. In the second half they kept it tight at the back and made it hard for us to score”.
“Whenever I have the strength I try to push up. I thought today was a good day to do it”.

Dynamo go top
Dynamo Kiev’s win at Rubin Kazan (3-1) puts the Ukrainians top of Group F, after a great comeback on the first day. Kurban Berduyev’s side took a 25th minute lead through a majestic Alejandro Domínguez free kick. The home side failed to conjure up a response until the second half. 14 minutes after the break, Valeri Gazzaev’s side started a triumphant comeback. Ayila Yussuf (minute 71), Gerson Magrao (79) and Oleh Gusev (85) won it for the Ukrainians in an intense encounter. And Kiev will be Barça’s next opponents in the Champions League at the Camp Nou on September 29.

The team gets straight back to work on Thursday morning at 11.30 in a session behind closed doors at the Ciutat Esportiva. Xavi Hernàndez will then be giving a press conference.
