Xavi Hernandez has extended his contract with FC Barcelona until 2016, conditional on playing at least half of the matches in his final two seasons. His current runs out on 30th June 2014.

Xavi Hernandez and Club president Joan Laporta put their signatures to the new clauses in the deal, which link additional seasons to matches played, at lunchtime on Wednesday. Xavi has now committed the rest of his top-flight career to the Club. The salary and release clauses remain the same

At that moment he will be 36 and will have spent the previous 25 years at the Club – he joined the youth academy when he was 11.
