“There can be no excuses”

Edgar Fornós

Sergio Busquets insists that neither the difficulties of the trip to Italy, nor the hectic schedule of games the team are having will be used as a justification if the team slip up against Inter: “at this level, there can be no excuses”.

2010-04-18_ENTRENO_19.JPGThe Catalan midfielder was clearly excited at the prospect of starring in a Champions League semi-final and told reporters after training this lunchtime: “we are in with a chance to reach another final and we don’t want to throw that away. We know Inter will make it tough for us. We have been having a lot of big games and it’s not the ideal way to travel to Milan, but there can be no excuses. We have to get a good result that will allow us to go into the second leg with confidence”.

Upbeat about coach trip

The air traffic chaos cased by the volcanic eruption in Iceland has forced the team to make the journey to Italy by coach, but Sergio reckons: “maybe spending so long together on a coach will bring us closer and help us focus on beating Inter. It’s a long time on the road and we’re not really used to that, but with music and a film or two, I’m sure the trip won’t seem so long”.

Not the same Inter

2010-04-18_ENTRENO_21.JPGInter Milan and FC Barcelona met in the group stage and Barca drew 0-0 in Italy and won 2-0 in the Nou Camp, but Busquets warned things could be more complicated this time around: “Inter know us better and they will be better prepared for our tactics. Their confidence is high after getting through against teams like Chelsea and the fact that there is a chance of making the final will mean they come out really fired up”.

“The league title is in our own hands”

Busquets also admitted that a draw against Espanyol: “was maybe the fairest result”, but insisted: “the team are convinced that we can win every game that’s left to play this season. We know it’s all in our hands and we’ll do everything possible to hold onto the top spot”.

Youth team memories
Travelling by coach was pretty much the norm for Sergio Busquets not too long ago when he was playing for the reserves or the youth team and he explained: “we used to play a lot of Cup and League games all over Spain and we nearly always travelled by coach. I think the longest journey I ever made was five hours long. This one’s going to be a bit longer, but we’re in a good mood and it’ll be okay”.
