Valdés pays homage to Iniesta

www.fcbarcelona.cat

Víctor Valdés was keen to dedicate FC Barcelona’s win against Deportivo de la Coruña on Wednesday evening to injured team-mated Andrés Iniesta.

“Andrés is going through a difficult time and he does not deserve it especially with so many important games coming up so we need to be there to help him,” the keeper said. “The fans [who sang Iniesta’s name] were great and that was special for him.”

The pass forward for Dani Alves by Valdés led to Pedro’s wonderstrike. “I saw Dani and that finding him would be a good counter-attack and the ball then fell to Pedro and he scored. It was important that we scored that second goal too,” he added.

Below is what some of the other players had to say after the win.

Pedro:

“It was a good game and we worked very hard in order to create a lot of chances.”

“I scored a great goal and I am pleased that it went in.”

“I decided to shoot because I was some way out and it went well and all seemed to move very quickly. Valdés made a great pass for Dani and then the ball fell to me.”

Márquez:

“We played with great intensity. The other team were defensively strong and did not move forward or create too much. We had a lot of chances although we only managed to score once in the first half.”

“Everyone knows that when Dani can go forward he does and then Pedro scored that great goal.”

“Valdés is in great form and we look to help him whenever we can and I hope he continues to keep clean sheets.”

“I feel physically strong and the whole team is in good form. I have to take advantage of the time that the coach gives me to prove myself.”

Bojan:

“I am still young and have a lot to learn and thanks to the coach I am improving every day.”

“We have picked up three more very important points and continue at the top so now we can look ahead to the weekend game.”

“I am learning a lot. Xavi gave me a great pass that gave me the chance to score. I am happy with the way things are going for me.”

“We all know that we have an important month ahead and we have the strength to tackle it head on.”

Dani Alves:

“Once again we have played well. I am pleased with the result.”

“I tried to score with an overhead kick but it was not possible.”

“Pedro is in great form at the moment.”

Piqué:

“There are six finals left and the Champions League games.”

“We have shown how good we are and we have to be happy.”

“After Arsenal and Madrid it could be difficult to maintain the motivation but the team has continued in the same way.”

“Going to play Espanyol is always difficult because they will be up for the game. But it would be great to win there.”

“I loved Pedro’s goal and it also allowed us to relax somewhat.”
