Never behind in the league

Jordi Clos

Not only have Barca gone through the first half of the season unbeaten, they have also actually never yet been behind in a game, having gone in front in each of the 19 matches, except the goalless draw in Valencia.

Although there has been plenty of coverage of Barca’s ability to fight back, they’ve not had to come from behind at all in the league so far this season, having managed to take the lead in all but one of the games in the first half of the campaign.

Lead taken in 18 of 19 games

2009-10-17_PARTIDO_WEB_08.JPGBarca have won 15 of their first 19 games and with the exception of the game in Mestalla, they have led in all of them. In the other three drawn games, against Osasuna in Pamplona, Bilbao in San Mames and Villarreal at the Nou Camp, they had taken the lead before being pegged back to 1-1 in all of the games.

Fightbacks

2009-12-16_PARTIDO_030.JPGThe situation in other competitions hasn’t quite been the same, with Barca coming back from behind against Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup to win 1-2 and against Atlante (3-1) and Estudiantes (2-1) in the World Club Cup. In the Champions, Barça lost 1-2 to Rubin Kazán and ensured qualification from the group stage by coming from behind to beat Dynamo Kiev 1-2. In the Spanish Cup, Seville took the lead twice in beating Barca 1-2 at the Nou Camp.

Lats comeback in the league at the Bernabeu
Barca haven’t had to come from behind in the league since 2 May 2009 when Higuain put Madrid one up at the Bernabeu. What happened after that is, of course, history!
