The team did not let their heads drop

Anna Segura

The FC Barcelona players emphasised the fact that the team never let their heads drop against Shakhtar Donetsk and kept going in order to come away with all three points.

In what was a very difficult encounter, two goals from Lionel Messi in the closing minutes gave the Blaugrana victory and saw them move to the top of Group C with six points and all the players were delighted with attitude that was shown in the Ukraine.

Bojan Krkic:

“Away from home we are used to the fact that you have to work harder. Just like in Montjuïc, here we created quite a few chances and just could not score.

“The season is very long and little-by-little we are taking advantage of our chances.”

“The move for the first goals was completely legal.”

Thierry Henry:

“We have changed the tactics but the team has the same attitude and character. It is better to win with goals and quality but sometimes you have to win like this.”

“I am happy at Barcelona and you can see that when everyone was off the bench when we scored.”

“We have a very good atmosphere in the team. It helps us to win games like the won that we have won here.”

“I am very pleased for Leo because he is the best player in the world.”

Leo Messi:

“It was not one of best games but it is important that the team keeps on trying.”

“We have celebrated like that because the result pushes us up.”

“The second goal was very good with the pass from Xavi and I had the fortune to score.”

“In the move for the first goal, the defender cleared the ball and not because a player was on the ground. They did that to clear the danger. They played very hard all game.”

“Now we have to continue with his rhythm and dynamic.”

Gerard Piqué:

“At no time did we see the player on the ground and we chose to continue and they were a bit naïve.”

“The atmosphere is great in the team and we never throw in the towel.”

Andrés Iniesta:

“We are first to want ‘fair play’, but we are not stupid because they did not kick the ball out intentionally.”

“We have worked very hard for this win. It is easy to win away after going behind and in the end the team collected our reward.”

Samuel Eto’o:

“We have won thanks to the strength of the team and the moves by Messi showed his talent.”
