Alexander Hleb has pledged his support for the International Police Association, which will donate an ambulance for use by the Children’s Psychiatric Hospital in Minsk, his Belarusian city of birth.

On Tuesday at midday, Barça’s Belarusian star, Alexander Hleb, took a break from his recovery from an ankle injury to do his bit for charity. The Catalan delegation of the International Police Association (IPA), in collaboration with Bomberos Humanitarios (an organisation that takes humanitarian aid to Belarus) met up with Hleb on the Camp Nou grounds to tell him about the project they are undertaking in his home city.

The initiative involves taking an ambulance to the Children’s Psychiatric Hospital in Minsk, which looks after 125 children. Hleb spoke for several minutes with the project organisers, showing sincere interest in everything they are doing.

Important to help

After posing for photographs with the organisers and the ambulance, Hleb said “this initiative is fantastic. I have every respect for the people who have done this. It is very important for our country. There are a lot of children who need help.”

Hleb has worked with similar initiatives in the past, and his wife works for an organisation that helps children and the elderly in need.

Other collaborations
In 2006, FC Barcelona was involved in a different project alongside the International Police Association. On that occasion, the Barça players signed different shirts that were offered as prizes in a draw to raise funds.
