“Effort and solidarity the most important”

Vanessa Forns

After thrashing Sporting Gijon 1-6, Guardiola singled out the “effort and solidarity” of his players. “What I will take from the game is the effort we put in right up to the end, and we all gave our all. This is the way we must continue”, he said.

Guardiola reminded everyone that at the official presentation of the squad, all the players promised to make the maximum effort in every game. In this sense, he can consider that, the result apart, the most important thing is “the fact that I see a team that makes the effort and plays as a unit”.

Accuracy is key

For the Barça manager, the game on Sunday wasn’t too different from those played so far. The main difference was accuracy in front of goal: “To be honest, this game was very similar to those we’ve already played. Today we were better in front of goal and for that reason we have won three valuable points”.

A daring opponent

With respect to Barça’s opponents, Sporting Gijon, Guardiola only had words of raise: “Sporting is a team to watch out for in the league. It’s a team which I have good feelings about. They have a coach who’s not afraid to take chances with his tactics and that’s something you have to admire”.

“I have a very good squad”

Once again, Guardiola reiterated his belief that he has “a very good squad”. With specific regard to the performance of Sergio Busquets, the manager said that he feels very happy with him and singled out the “strong personality” of the player.
“Effort and solidarity the most important”
Laporta: “We have to continue with this spirit of sacrifice”
Very happy with the resounding victory of his team against Sporting Gijon, Joan Laporta, however, remained prudent and although he was happy that Barça are “on the right road”, the team “cannot be too sure of themselves”. “We have to continue with this spirit of sacrifice”, he added. Laporta wanted to publicly congratulate the players and coaching staff mainly for showing “the good footballing image of this new era of Barça”.
Furthermore, the president spoke highly of the number of players from the youth ranks who are now members of the first team: “It’s important to see that the work we are doing at a base level is bearing fruit and that we have a manager who is brave enough to let them play”.
