Old friends and work in Mareo

www.fcbarcelona.cat

FC Barcelona’s first team carried out their final training session before tonight’s game in the football academy in Mareo where they met up with some old friends.

A little before 11.00 this morning, the team coach pulled up at the football academy in Mareo for the final training session before tonight’s game. There, the players met up with two historic figures from Barca´s and Asturian football’s past, namely Enrique Castro ‘Quini’ and Abelardo Fernandez. Both are currently employed with Sporting Gijon, the former as a representative of the first team and the latter as manager of Sporting B.

The youngest too

Apart from this meeting of past greats, there was also Hugo Lopez awaiting the arrival of the Barça players. Currently with Sporting B, Lopez played his junior football with the azulgranas and played alongside Sergio Busquets, Pedro and Bojan. The four met up again this morning to talk about old times.

Training

Training took place this morning on the same pitch where Abelardo Fernandez’s Sporting B side beat Sestao 2-0 on Saturday. It was a light session of only half an hour and was primarily an opportunity for the players to stretch their legs and do a bit of ball work.

Toure and Iniesta signatures
Since their arrival in Gijon, the Barça players have been followed everywhere by a large number of supporters who haven’t been able to see their team in the flesh for 10 years. Most of them left on Saturday with a nice souvenir in the shape of a signature from Toure and Iniesta, who were charged with meeting with the fans.
