Henry and Márquez, popular with the press

David Saura (special correspondent)

Thierry Henry and Rafa Márquez are the focal point of the press in New York. Both participated live from the streets of Manhattan in two ‘morning shows’ this Tuesday morning.

Thierry Henry, a player who doesn’t hide his love of New York city, and Rafa Márquez, popular among the large Hispanic public of the U.S., they are the FC Barcelona players the local press are most interested in. A clear example of this was this morning, there was no training, when both took part in two television programmes in which, apart from talking about sports themes, they helped promote the clubs affinity with Malaria No More .

Henry, on ‘Fox and Friends'

In the French players case, he took part in Fox’s morning programme called ‘Fox and Friends’. Interviewed by Brian Kilmeade, the Barça no. 14 spoke of his passion for the city and the teams present situation, but above all about the charity campaign set up by the club on their visit to New York with their link to U.N.I.C.E.F., while showing off an FC Barcelona shirt.

Moreover, Henry had a kickabout in the street (on the corner of Sixth Avenue and 47th Street) with five girl footballers from the A.Y.S.O. association. This was roughly between 8.30 and 8.45a.m. The striker ended up signing autographs for the people in the street and who had stopped to see what the cameras were doing.

Márquez, on ‘¡Despierta América!'

As for Rafa Márquez, he was on another programme before 8a.m. (local time), in this case Spanish speaking. It was ‘¡Despierta América!’ a programme which has been on the air of the Univision channel since 1997 and which broadcasts from Miami in Florida. In this case the vice-president Rafa Yuste accompanied the Mexican player, who along with Márquez, explained the prevention campaign which the club will set up to reduce the impact of malaria on the infant population of Africa. The Mexican player also spoke of Barça’s present situation and his national team, of which he is the captain.
