Press praise for Barça

Newspapers and sports magazines alike have once again poured praise on Barça’s performance in the Cup Final.

Many of the articles suggest that the Cup could be just the first of three trophies for Barça this season.

On the way to the treble

Sports daily ‘Sport', headlines with “The first…and on the way to the treble” while Catalan newspapers 'Avui', ‘El Periódico de Catalunya’ and ‘El 9’ go with “The first to fall”, “The first” and “This is only the beginning” respectively. All of them believe Barça will also win the league and Champions League.

Praise for team performance

Journalists agreed with the public that Barça played much better than Athletic Club and deserved the win. Sports daily ‘El Mundo Deportivo’ says “Champion of the passing game” while ‘Sport’ stresses, “Football won and there’s nobody better at playing football than Barça”. The ‘La Vanguardia' newspaper sums it up “Barça won the Cup with a marvellous recital”.

Touré and Messi the stars

Much of the press attentions is centred on Touré and Messi, scorers of the first two goals. The ‘La Vanguardia' says: “The Ivory Coast international scored the most vital and brutal goal with Barça on the night of his 26th birthday”. The ‘El Periódico de Catalunya” also picks him out: “Everything began with a great goal from Yaya that will stay forever in the history of the Cup”.

As for Messi, the ‘Mundo Deportivo' says, “he paid tribute to Maradona with a memorable match”.
