Alves and Abidal to miss the final

www.fcbarcelona.cat

Daniel Alves and Éric Abidal will both be ineligible to play for FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final after the pair received cards against Chelsea that will mean they are suspended.

The Brazilian full-back is out because of an accumulation of cards while the French defender was sent off at Stamford Bridge.

Alves too many cards

web_13.jpgOn the half-hour mark Alves was adjudged to have fouled Ashley Cole and Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo produced a yellow card. The former Sevilla star knew before the game that he would not play in the final if he was booked having picked up two yellow cards in previous rounds and appeared to be slightly hyper-active in the opening few minutes.

Abidal sent off

Abidal will not be available to Pep Guardiola after he was sent off in the 66th minute of the game. Nicolas Anelka went down in front of the Barça full-back and the referee felt he saw that there was contact and produced the red card as the Chelsea forward was approaching the area.

Shuffling the defence
The fact that Daniel Alves and Éric Abidal will be missing in the final means that Pep Guardiola will have to shuffle his pack as Rafael Márquez will still be out with his injury. Carles Puyol will be back after being banned for the second leg against Chelsea.
