Trouble-hit Olympique arrive in Barcelona

Roger Bogunyà

Barça’s European opposition, Olympique Lyon, landed at El Prat airport today Monday at 19.00. The French squad was transferred to Hotel Miramar, where they will stay until Wednesday, the day of the crunch Champions League tie.

All of the stars of Wednesday’s encounter (20.45, live on Canal + and R@dio Barça) are in Barcelona. Olympique Lyon’s arrival has raised plenty of expectations, and several reporters were at the airport to welcome a side that has serious doubts about its form, and the fitness of some of its players.

Lille beat Lyon twice

keita-olympique-fcb.jpgThe side has just lost two consecutive matches against the same side, Lille, in the cup and in Ligue 1. The cup match saw Puel’s charges crash 3-2 after letting in a last minute winner.

Their cup challenge over, Lyon then suffered a key defeat in the league too, 2-0. They still stay top despite the setback, but are now just one point clear of second placed Paris Saint-Germain.

Uncertainty surrounding Benzema

He made his return on Saturday, but only played the first half and is still doubtful for the clash at the Camp Nou.

Another player with injury concerns is Mensah, who was hurt during the cup match just five days ago. Manager Claude Puel has already announced that his defender will not be playing on Wednesday.

Only defeated team
Olympique Lyon is the only one of the 16 sides left in the Champions League that lost its domestic game at the weekend. Barça, Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Juventus, Inter, Panathinaikos and Bayern Munich all won their league games, and Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United won in the FA Cup.

Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, Villarreal and Roma all drew, while Liverpool, already out of the English cup, had the weekend off.
