Xavi: “The fans enjoyed themselves”

Jordi Clos

Xavi Hernández reiterated the words of his coach as he stated that he was pleased that FC Barcelona scored an early goal against Rangers in Camp Nou. "It was easier because we scored quickly," he said.

The Barça midfielder was also pleased with the overall performance of the team as they swept to victory thanks to goals from Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi. "We have moved the ball quickly and comfortably and the fans seemed to enjoy themselves, which is always important," he explained. Rangers' defensive stance was not something Xavi expected after they went behind. "That surprised me," he continued. "They could have attacked more, but they opted for sitting on the result and we felt good. It was easier because we scored early on and we have maintained a high rhythm. The second goal gave us great confidence."

And now, the Lyon

Not scoring more was "a pity" for Xavi as Barça created numerous chances to add to their tally, but now they in are in a strong position to qualify after their next game. "We will try to earn a good result in Lyon. They are strong, but we will try to win first place that would boost our morale and confidence." Finally, the Catalan playmaker complimented Víctor Valdés for keeping another clean sheet. "It is difficult to be a goalkeeper," he said. "He has been playing well for many years and we appreciate him a great deal because of how good he is."

Below is what other members of the victorious Barça team had to say:

Bojan Krkic

"They were difficult to beat at their stadium, but here we scored quickly and that allowed us to play more comfortably."

Víctor Valdés

"It is an important win for us and we played well."

"We knew the key was scoring early on."

"Getafe is now a vital game. We go there in good form and we expect to take all three points."
