Stuttgart v Barça: Did you know…?

www.fcbarcelona.cat

Background, precedents, statistics... Here is a wealth of trivia surrounding tonight’s clash between Stuttgart and Barça.

- Barça and Stuttgart have never met in an official European fixture.

- Barça have faced German clubs on 41 occasions and generally performed well. Of those 41 games, Barça have won 21, drawn 9 and lost 11. But in away matches they have won just 6, while drawing 8 and losing 5.

- Stuttgart have met Spanish clubs in Europe six times, always in the UEFA Cup. The have won just one of these matches, while drawing 2 and losing 3.

- Barça, under Frank Rijkaard, have played 4 games against German sides, of which 3 were wins and 1 was a draw.

- Stuttgart are missing three important players for tonight’s clash in Matthieu Delpierre, Thomas Hitzlsperger and Antonio Da Silva, who was hurt while warming up for the Hansa Rostock v Stuttgart game last Saturday.

- Neither of the sides are missing any players through suspension.

- Two familiar faces will meet tonight. Mexicans Rafael Márquez and Pável Pardo played together at CF Atlas between 1996 and 1998.

- One of the Stuttgart players, Ciprian Marica, celebrates his 22nd birthday on the day of the match.

- Henry, after scoring against Lyon, has scored 43 goals in the Champions League, more than any other Barça player.

The referee
Swede Martin Hansson has never refereed either Barça or Stuttgart. In fact he has only ever taken charge of one Champions League match with Spanish involvement, and that was the 2-2 draw between Inter Milan and Valencia in 2006/07.
