Oleguer hoping for big things

Jordi Clos

The defender has said his aim this season is to help the team achieve big things. He feels the team forms a great unit and if they do things right, they will be the favourites to win the league.

Oleguer Presas has played more pre-season minutes for FC Barcelona than any other player, but he is still not sure if that means his place is assured in the starting line-up against Racing Santander: “We all deserve to play” he said. “We are working under the same conditions. My aim is to contribute to our success. This is a collective sport”.

Focused on Barça

Oleguer is one of the few players that has not been picked for his national side, and said “we are used to these mass exoduses of international players. Every year it’s the same, it’s normal at a club like this”.

A “great block”

We have taken in all the concepts the boss wants. We are a great block. If we do things right, we will be the favourites to win the league”.

Super Cup

The defender was asked to comment on the Spanish Super Cup, in which Sevilla humiliated Real Madrid with a 5-3 away win. The defender merely replied that “Sevilla always looked a consistent side, and Madrid still need time. It is still too early to say which of the two will be our main rival”.

Gudjohnsen in Iceland
One of the many missing players this week is Eidur Gudjohnsen. The Icelandic Federation have exercised their right to examine the condition of their player and his knee injury. The striker will be back in Barça on Tuesday and will continue his recovery programme on Wednesday.
